As a premier regional theatre, our primary purpose is to create the highest quality, most entertaining productions we can deliver. We hire the actors and directors and artistic teams who design and produce everything on our stages including costumes, sets, props, lighting, projection, and sound.

San Jose Playhouse acts as an indispensable resource for our greater San Jose community. We believe that a non-profit theatre should seek to reflect and connect with the community that it serves, both through its programming and its people.

We value theatre as essential throughout one’s life for developing empathy, broadening understanding, heightening awareness of the communal nature of our existence, and to promote joy. Our educational programming is a critical component in creating meaningful artistic connections among youth and adults.

2021 Hope is on the horizon and new possibilities await.

2020 was a year no one could have predicted. While the sound of our audience’s applause disappeared nearly a year and a half ago, San Jose Playhouse continued to plan and revise so that we could bring you a season unlike any we have experienced together – San Jose Playhouse truly looks forward to in-person experiences again. This is where you can help…

San Jose Playhouse presents the Curtain Up! Campaign, writing the next chapter with you in the producing role. We seek community support to continue and enhance the core work of theatre and education and to implement the lessons learned in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and heightened social justice awareness.

Your support will help secure resources necessary to once again:

• Produce plays on our stages for live audiences.
• Be able to creatively deliver theatrical performances and education activities offering flexibility, accessibility, and outreach to diverse audiences.
• Rebuild administrative, artistic, education, and production teams..
• Implement new safety protocols in all aspects of our work.

No matter how you give, our community of donors is essential to our success.

Gift Stock:

To donate stock, please inform us of the name of the securities you intend to transfer and the approximate dollar amount of the transfer or the number of shares. At that time, you will be provided the account numbers and Tax ID number needed to finalize your transfer.

Planned Giving:

To recognize the value of legacy gifts to San Jose Playhouse, we have created the Legacy Circle. Membership in the Legacy Circle is open to all those who make a planned gift to San Jose Playhouse, such as a provision through a will or trust, the establishment of a charitable gift annuity or another type of deferred gift. Planned gifts may offer significant tax advantages to donors and their heirs. Gifts from members of the Legacy Circle allow San Jose Playhouse to continue to produce and present the highest caliber artistic and education programs. By making a planned gift, you are leaving a legacy that will continue to provide support for San Jose Playhouse for years to come. Your gift can be directed to our artistic funds, education and community engagement funds or the general fund.

We cannot do this alone. Our ticket revenue only covers half of the cost of all the programs we offer. The generosity of our donors who invest in our work, help us achieve passion and purpose in every performance and touch the lives of thousands through our comprehensive education programs at San Jose Playhouse.

If ever there was a time that we needed the support of our San Jose Playhouse family, it is now. With minimal ticket revenue, our donors will keep us working until we can gather again safely. We are all aching for the things we enjoyed before the pandemic, and we look forward to celebrating with you when we return to our theaters and classrooms.

Friends of San Jose Playhouse (formerly called “Members”), support us yearly, and we consider them part of San Jose Playhouse’s collective. They receive special benefits and have special access to the wonder, chaos and brilliance that happens behind the scenes at San Jose Playhouse.
