Theatre Classes for Youth

In these school age classes, students will take the next step on learning more about acting, music, and movement, all with the goal of building self-confidence, teamwork, and risk-taking.

Students will experience all aspects of theatre and musical theatre through activities unique to various exciting historical periods and become a part of history in the making!

Each class will end with a final showcase for friends and family to come explore all of the fun and hard work that was put into the quarter! 

Acting/Music/Dance:
Summer Conservatory

Our annual summer program is four weeks of fun jam packed with courses of study for nearly every theatre discipline. Enjoy small-class learning for core classes and mixed-age groups for electives. Then, get ready for rehearsals as we work to create a full length showcase with scenes, songs, and dancing to present before an audience.

Acting:
Exploring Ancient Cultures

Theater has been around forever – really! In this class, students will write and produce an original play after exploring ancient cultures and learning how people have expressed themselves creatively throughout the ages.

In this class, students will develop a deeper appreciation for acting and the arts! Through theatre games, acting exercises, and text work, students will gain confidence and an enriched understanding of the craft. They will learn the vocabulary and techniques that every actor must know while making new friends along the way!

Acting:
Egyptian Rituals

Theater has been around forever – really! In this class, students will write and produce an original play after recapture the rituals of ancient Egypt. 

Students will develop a deeper appreciation for acting and the arts! Through theatre games, acting exercises, and text work, students will gain confidence and an enriched understanding of the craft. Students will learn the vocabulary and techniques that every actor must know while making new friends along the way!

Acting:
Greek Myths

Theater has been around forever – really! In this class, students will write and produce an original play after learning the myths of Greece while developing stage presence and improving vocal projection.

Students will develop a deeper appreciation for acting and the arts! Through theatre games, acting exercises, and text work, students will gain confidence and an enriched understanding of the craft. Students will learn the vocabulary and techniques that every actor must know while making new friends along the way!

Acting:
Roman Comedy

Comedy is ageless – what was funny to the Romans is still funny today. Expand your flair for comedy. In this class, students will write and produce an original play after exploring ancient cultures and learning how people have expressed themselves creatively throughout the ages.

Students will develop a deeper appreciation for acting and the arts! Through theatre games, acting exercises, and text work, students will gain confidence and an enriched understanding of the craft. Students will learn the vocabulary and techniques that every actor must know while making new friends along the way!

Acting:
Medieval Mysteries

Theater has been around forever – really! In this class, students will write and produce an original play after discovering the chivalry of the middle ages and create your own mystery drama.

Students will develop a deeper appreciation for acting and the arts! Through theatre games, acting exercises, and text work, students will gain confidence and an enriched understanding of the craft. Students will learn the vocabulary and techniques that every actor must know while making new friends along the way!

Musical Theatre:
Broadway Dance

Ever see a musical and want to jump out of your seat dancing? In this class you’ll escape to Never Never Land with the characters of Peter Pan, tap your toes to 42nd Street, follow the traditions of Fiddler on the Roof, or dance like Rum Tum Tugger from Cats as you learn techniques and combinations from these and more popular musicals.

Musical Theatre is the most popular form of theatre in America today. It’s exciting, magical and the fun is contagious! In this class, students will experience musical theatre through movement and acting exercises to take their skills to the next level.

Musical Theatre:
Broadway Melodies

Ever go to the theatre and get this urge to start singing along with the cast? Here’s a companion class to our Broadway Dance class that lets you sing classic melodies and new showtunes from such hit musicals as Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Into the Woods, Wicked, and more.

Musical Theatre is the most popular form of theatre in America today. It’s exciting, magical and the fun is contagious! In this class students will experience musical theatre through ensemble singing and solo work to take their skills to the next level.

Musical Theatre:
Dance Through Time

Dance the Charleston through the Roaring 20’s. Tap through the 30’s to the “Lullaby of Broadway.” Learn the jitterbug – the craze of the 40’s. Twist into the fabulous 50’s with poodle skirts and penny loafers. Learn the steps to America’s favorite dances of the mid 20th Century.
